Ringing in the New Year in my New Apartment and Other Resolutions

Posted on December 30, 2009 in: Lindsey | Living the life

During my long, wet drive home to spend the holidays with my family, I couldn’t help but think that I’ve had one crazy year. I went on my first road trip, graduated from college, did the job search thing, moved to Chicago, found a job and rented my first apartment. Whew!

As I thought about how much I have accomplished, I wondered how I could possibly top my accomplishments next year. So, with the New Year right around the corner, I sat down and made a list of my top ten resolutions for 2010. After all, I’m ‘living the life.’

10. Find the cheapest way to move my stuff to Chicago, so I can finally get off this couch. With my limited belongings, all I should need is one large pick up truck (yes, sad, but, hey I’m starting out!) Luckily for me, those come in large supply in my family. Is anyone up for a road trip?

9. Resist the temptation of spending a fortune decorating my apartment. I have a feeling my new place is going to feel a bit reminiscent of my old college room, but I guess a little bit of Athens, Ohio in Chicago isn’t such a bad thing. Go Bobcats!!

8. Learn how to do at least 10 things I didn’t know how to do before. First on the list is assembling furniture. This could get a little messy, but hey, a little mess never hurt anyone, right?

7. Gym here I come…I will work out every day… that’s right every day…. I can already feel the burn.

6. Explore my new city and find all it has to offer. (Any suggestions??)

5. Make it back to my hometown to see family and friends at least 10 times.

4. Keep myself out of debt and actually follow my budget. This one could be difficult, especially since I’m living so close to the Magnificent Mile. (Thank goodness for the WilliamPaid credit tools.)

3. Find a place to volunteer my time and give to someone else. There’s no better feeling than being part of something bigger.

2. Work hard and use what I spent all that money on in college to learn.

1. Make the most of the next year…2010. Bring it on - I’m ready!

This ambitious list should keep me pretty busy until 2011. Hopefully, I will be able to stick to it. Does anyone have any helpful suggestions, and what are some of your resolutions as we welcome in 2010?
