Five Solo Activities Every Renter Should Try

Posted on September 1, 2010 in: Lindsey | Living the life

All renters get those days when we just can’t stand another second with our roommates (or being stuck in the apartment for us solo renters) and need some time outside of our apartments on our own. But what should you do when you’re flying solo? Here are my top five favorite activities to do on a solo day or night out.

  • Go see a movie. So, you’ve been dying to see a movie that just hit theaters, but your friends have plans. Head to the theater for a viewing alone. Just think you won’t have anyone commenting mid-scene and you don’t have to share your popcorn. Yum!
  • Hit the beach. Grab your towel, sunscreen and your favorite magazine and hit the beach for a few hours of relaxation by the waves. The best part is that you can finally catch up on the latest celebrity gossip (Can you believe that Spencer would do that to Heidi? Guess the days of Speidi are officially over.), or you can ‘accidentally’ bump into that cutie playing Frisbee nearby and strike up a conversation.
  • Sit down for dinner. Ok, so this one is a little more difficult for many, but hey, there are some great restaurants out there. Why miss out on the perfect chance to get in some uninterrupted people watching? Plus, many restaurants have a counter to sit at if you’re uncomfortable taking up a table.
  • Grab a drink. Stopping by a new bar for a quick drink can be a great way to meet new people. Who knows, maybe you’ll even score a free drink or two!
  • Go Shopping. Of course, this one is only an option if you have a little breathing room in your budget, but a little retail therapy could be just what the doctor ordered. (Even window shopping can be theraputic.) Plus, you can go at your own pace, taking as long as you want in the dressing room, and it’s much easier to keep on budget when you don’t have others throwing six different outfits in your dressing room that you just have to try on.

Of course there are many other activities to enjoy on a solo outing. What are some of your favorite activities to enjoy alone?

I’d have to buy into with you on this. Which is not something I typically do! I love reading a post that will make people think. Also, thanks for allowing me to speak my mind!
