As renters have been stringing their apartments with lights and buying the perfect trees to nestle their gifts under, the city of Chicago has been busy preparing a week of exciting holiday activities. Here are a few that I would recommend renters check out to get into the holiday spirit.
- ZooLights: Every night, from 5-9 PM, now through January 2, you can enjoy the famous ZooLights at Lincoln Park Zoo for free. So, grab yourself some hot chocolate and a few friends, and spend some time wondering through this light spectacular.
- Winter Wonderfest: Let your inner child shine or get a taste of adventure with a visit to the Winter Wonderfest at Navy Pier. Running through February 2, this event has something for everyone from simulations sending riders speeding down slopes or racing through the Arctic on snowmobiles. Visitors can also enjoy a little skating, an adventure ice ropes course and much more.
- Ice Skating at the McCormick Tribune Ice Rink: A favorite past time of many renters, ice-skating at the McCormick Tribune Ice Rink is free and open to the public through March 13. If you’re looking for a rink that’s a little less crowded head out to the Rink at Wrigley and try out their full size rink.
- Window Shopping on the Magnificent Mile: Head down to the Magnificent Mile to finish up some last minute shopping or just take a stroll and enjoy the one million lights strewn amongst the 200 trees lining the street. For a little extra holiday magic, spring for a carriage and take a tour of the best spots of downtown Chicago.
- Miracle on 34th Street: Enjoy a little theater this week, with a holiday classic. Miracle on 34th Street is playing at the Porchlight Music Theatre through January 3. For tickets go to http://www.porchlighttheatre.com.
Of course, this is only a small selection of the many holiday events being held across the city, and I have to recommend the Christkindlmarket one last time for those who have not yet made it to the Daley Plaza. Hurry, the market ends Christmas Eve! What are your favorite holiday events hosted by your city?
