Over at Ron’s Apartment Living Blog (on About.com), Editor Ron Leshnower wrote this week about “friendly debates” with roommates about politics. Ron offers the following tips:
•Agree to disagree.
•Don’t try to convert each other.
•Don’t let your roommate’s beliefs get to you.
•Show some respect.
•Limit your show of support for candidates and political parties (in other words, politely avoid “hot” topics).
Kudos, Ron. Smart tips. We think those tips apply to EVERY ROOMMATE DISCUSSION, regardless of topic. Building a good roommate relationship comes down to proactive and thoughtful communication.
Ron’s blog also shares perspective about apartment hunting, breaking leases without penalty, negotiating rent with landlords, and creating a budget. Worth a look!
P.S. For your next roommate political debate, here is a list of President Obama’s former roommates.
