My Fall Favorites for Chicago Renters

Posted on November 10, 2010 in: Lindsey | Living the life

Chicago in the Fall

The fall season is a favorite for many renters with its colorful scenery and sunny yet cool weather. Even I, a summer girl, have developed a special appreciation for the pre-winter weather as I enjoy my second fall in Chicago. Here are a few autumn activities that will have you falling for this season all over again.

  • Check out the football scene. If you’re a sports fan at all, you must check out the fall sports scene in Chicago. While football is definitely the premiere sport of the season with the Bears season in full swing, you can still enjoy the early season games of the Bulls and Blackhawks as well.
  • Enjoy a Fall-themed Drink. Many establishments across the city create drink menus to accommodate the flavors of fall. My favorite is definitely the Holiday Hot Toddy at Uncommon Ground. One taste of this spiked cinnamon and cider combination and you’ll be hooked!
  • Picnic in the Park. Pack a picnic and find a cozy spot in your favorite park. Bring along a few friends and make it a day of tossing around a football and enjoying the fall foliage. If you don’t have time for a picnic, try grabbing a pumpkin latte and going for a stroll along a trail or two.
  • Go Window Shopping for Fall Fashion. For all of you tight-budgeted fashionistas out there, head down to the Magnificent Mile for a day of window-shopping. Who knows, maybe touring this year’s fall fashions will give you a few new ideas with your own wardrobe. But, you may want to leave the wallet at home to preserve your budget.
  • Celebrate the Holiday Season. Head downtown on November 20, and enjoy the Lights Festival with thousands of your closest friends. Festivities begin at 11 AM with a day packed full of events for every age group. However, the lighting procession itself is set to begin at 5:30 PM on Michigan Ave. Head down early to get your spot for the big event.

These five activities equal one great fall season in Chicago, but I do still miss all the bonfires that marked autumn in the country. Which fall activities are your favorites of the season?
