A Renter’s Guide to Halloween in Chicago: Haunted Attractions

Posted on October 6, 2010 in: Lindsey | Living the life

Haunted House

Just when you thought that nothing was scarier than the sight of your landlord searching for your next rent payment, Halloween season is here with plenty of fright sites to leave you crying for your mother. Check out these five haunted attractions in Chicagoland this year, and scream, cry and whimper to your heart’s content.

  • The Fear: This Navy Pier attraction was voted one of the top 25 haunted attractions to see in 2009. Take a tour to see just what kind of ghastly creatures the captain collected during his voyage to earn such a title and enjoy a few of Navy Pier’s many other attractions while you’re at it.
  • Statesville Haunted Prison: Visit this prison and rub elbows with a few of the most dangerous convicts, including Hannibal himself. Tours will be given every Thursday through Sunday until Halloween.
  • Chronicles of the Cursed: This haunted tour brings you up close and personal with the creatures unearthed by a new sinkhole in downtown Chicago. Take a trip below the earth’s surface when you visit this attraction open every weekend now through Halloween.
  • Eleventh Hour: How long can you hold out? Take a tour of the “longest and cheapest haunted house in Chicago”. Or take your pick of any of the other three haunted attractions on site from Wednesday through Sunday until Halloween.
  • Dream Reapers: This haunted attraction attacks you from all angles by stimulating 4 of your 5 senses. Confront your worst nightmares throughout this haunt’s 22+ rooms and find out why it has been ranked the #1 Haunted House in Illinois for three years running.

This short list guarantees plenty of thrills and chills, but if your looking for more attractions in your area, check out hauntedhousechicago.com and hauntedillinois.com for detailed lists. Also, as I honor my old haunt and one of the most haunted towns in the world, Athens, Ohio, stay tuned for more Halloween specials throughout October. What is your favorite way to celebrate the Halloween season?
