About a month ago, the fest season officially kicked off in Chicago. I finally had my first chance to enjoy these epic events this past weekend, as I headed out to Division Street on Saturday for the Do-Division fest.
The street was packed with flocks of friends, families, pets and roommates enjoying the entertainment, eating a wide variety of delicious foods from all over the world and sampling an assortment of tasty brews.
With tents covering the center of the street, flocks of people made their way to each tent browsing the wide array of items from sunglasses to arts and crafts to Chicago social groups. It seemed that Division was ready to deliver no matter what you were looking for.
Even the kids had their own section with face painting, a moon-bounce and a mini playground. I’m pretty sure they weren’t the only ones enjoying this section, though, as I passed more than one adult with their faces resembling that of a cat.
Unfortunately, the weather was not ideal, as we constantly seemed to be dodging raindrops and racing fellow fest-goers to the little shelter available. More than once were we caught in a rainstorm that left us drenched, but we didn’t let that ruin our first fest experience. Although, I know we were definitely all a little envious of the renters who were enjoying the fest from their apartment windows instead of the wet street.
After the rains would end, everyone flocked toward the stages once again to see some of the bands perform. Everybody could find at least one performance to fit his or her tastes with a wide array of music from the chill sounds of CoCoComa to the electronic melodies of Hood Internet.
After a few hours of music, food and friends, though, we were tired of hiding from the rain and called it a day. Fest number one was definitely a success, and I can’t wait for the next one! After all, the Chicago Blues Festival is only a few days away. Which festivals are coming up in your area?
