A Renter’s Guide to Cheap Eats and Drinks

Posted on March 24, 2010 in: Lindsey | Living the life

With the warmer weather, St. Patrick’s Day festivities and March Madness, renters hibernating in their apartments began flooding the streets and filling the eating and drinking establishments around town this week. With roommates in tow, these extra customers have equaled longer lines and a noticeable change - for the worse - in the available deals around town.

While the deals have decreased as the temperatures increased, there are still a few out there, if you know where to look of course.

I’ve found my top three secret sites that I rely on to help me stay on budget while still having fun with friends.

The first one is Metromix.com. This site does a great job of reviewing local bars and establishments for the larger cities across the country and lists deals for each day of the week. It also welcomes reviews from patrons for a better picture of each spot. For all of you Chicagoans, I recommend their Spring Preview for an idea of what is yet to come.

Next, with Drinktown.com (unfortunately available only for Chicago - sorry!) finding the best deals is a cinch. Just choose the locations closest to you for a list of nightly specials. You can even see how far away each bar or restaurant is, so you can map out your transportation before leaving your apartment. (Psst… You need to sign up soon on Drinktown - they are going private!)

Last but not least is CenterStageChicago.com. This city guide is great to get a preview of the entire city. It lists the top food and drink deals in each neighborhood as well as entertainment discounts for music, theater and more. Need directions? No problem. Get directions right on the site or have the address messaged to your cell.

As the city wakes up from its winter slumber, I am excited to jump into what I’m told is one magnificent spring and summer season. Anyone have any other great deal sites they would like to share? What are some of your favorite spots?

Also, we will be rolling out to more cities this year if there are users who are willing to contribute content in their own cities — its a pain already keeping track of 900+ bars in Chicago — We need your help guys!
