So you just moved into your first studio apartment. Now what? It may seem bigger than the dorm room you just moved out of but those four walls can quickly start to feel confining. Decorating a small apartment can be a challenge but using some of these simple design tips you can maximize the space in your small apartment and make it a more comfortable living space.
1. Don’t clutter. Decorating a small apartment is easier when you use modern and simple furniture and designs. Too much furniture will make the space feel smaller than it is and will distract from the space that is available. Keep it simple and buy furniture that makes best use of the space available. Get a couch and coffee table that fit the room. Make the living room stand out with a colorful accent rug, like in the picture below.
2. Use room dividers. The best way to make your small apartment seem larger is to use dividers. This will create the illusion that the apartment has more rooms that it actually does. Use a large bookshelf to separate the space between your living room and your bedroom. It will make it seem as though your apartment has separate living spaces and will keep guests from using your bed as a couch!
