This week WilliamPaid honors Lori Gordon and Brooke Thalacker, roommates who rock.
Last year, Lori Gordon lost half her nest egg and moved in with a roommate half her age, Brooke Thalacker. Brooke, a teacher and aspiring school counselor now rents part of Gordon’s home.
“I just love Thalacker,” Gordon says. The two women lead busy independent lives, but they still find time to share one or two meals a week, plus occasional bike rides, wine, ice cream and sometimes “American Idol.” Their dogs, Ruby (Thalacker’s black lab) and Steve (Gordon’s white poodle), also get along famously.
Perfect fit roommates like Gordon and Thalacker are rare, but their circumstances are becoming more common. Economic woes, joblessness, tight budgets, and mounting debts are inspiring people to live together. According to Craigslist, roommate postings have hit an all-time high — increasing 160% nationwide over the past 24 months.
Even with the best roommate, conflicts can arise. Living with someone who comes from a different background or with someone who comes from a different generation altogether such as with Gordon and Thalacker, demands good communication. To be a good roommate you have to work at it. Thankfully, there are resources available to help give your roommate relationship a boost. WIKIHOW proposes this HOW TO BE A GOOD ROOMMATE MANUAL. And WilliamPaid shares roommate relationship tips on our blog every week.
Nominate your roommate for a spot on the “Roommates Who Rock” Wall of Fame.
