Big city living definitely has its advantages - 24/7 entertainment, great public transportation, people of all shapes and sizes. But, without a doubt, one of the greatest benefits of living in a city like Chicago is the endless supply of restaurants.
In small town Ohio, my restaurant options consisted of a burger place, a wing place, a pizza place, a Mexican place and a Chinese place. Of course, you can always head to your favorite local tavern for a sizzle steak and cheese balls (a personal favorite).
While I’m not knocking these choices - I love them all, in Chicago, all I have to do is walk out my door, and I can take a culinary trip to just about every country imaginable. Within walking distance of my apartment, there’s food from Ethiopia, Peru, just about every region of Italy, Poland, France, Morocco, and many others, not to mention the dozens of Asian restaurants and pizza places. Other countries are just an el ride away.
Because of this, my selection process is now much more complicated. Not only must I choose what kind of food I want, but I also must decide among the three or more restaurants on my block offering that kind of cuisine. Dining out is now its own adventure - when the budget allows of course.
My budget gets a break this week, though, while my taste buds get a treat. It’s Restaurant Week in Chicago. With over 170 participating establishments, this event makes even the most expensive of places, like the Seasons Restaurant in the Four Seasons hotel, affordable to little renters like me. Bonus!
Now through February 28, the deals are the same for every participating restaurant with the fixed prices of $22.00 for lunch and $32 for dinner for your choice of two or three choices on Prix Fixe menus. And, if you’re a planner, peruse the menus and make reservations online beforehand at eatitupchicago.com as space is limited.
I can’t wait to eat like a queen at a pauper’s price this week as I sample food from a variety of places, including The Berghoff, Bistro 110 or maybe even N9NE Steakhouse (why not?). I’ll let you know my favorite. Anyone up for dinner?

Nice article Linds! Enjoy all the great food.
Have you been to Avec? The dates are pretty tasty, but the service was weak. Sounds like an amazing week though!
