What are the benefits of paying my rent through WilliamPaid?

When you pay rent online through WilliamPaid, you instantly avoid the hassle of having to deal with checks, purchasing stamps or worrying about the mail going out on time. We can also send along reminders for when your next payment is due, via SMS, Facebook, Twitter or Email!

C'mon… Is WilliamPaid really FREE?

Yes! If you choose to pay rent online with your bank account, WilliamPaid is 100% FREE! We also give you the flexibility of paying rent with a credit card, debit card, cash, or any combination of these, but there are fees involved. Our pricing options can be viewed here.

How safe is my money with WilliamPaid?

Really safe! Your money is never held with WilliamPaid. Instead, it’s held by our FDIC-insured partner bank. We use the same 256-bit encryption and physical security used by major financial institutions and our business practices are monitored and verified by TRUSTe®, McAfee® and GeoTrust®.

How does WilliamPaid help me build my credit history?

When you pay your rent online with WilliamPaid, you get a lot of different options. One of them is to opt-in to reporting your rent payment history to Experian® RentBureau®. Experian RentBureau will update your Experian credit report to include your on-time rent payments. Learn More.

Does WilliamPaid really work with ANY landlord?

Absolutely! And they don’t need to do a thing. You tell us how much your rent payment is, when it’s due and where to send the money. We'll handle the rest!

Once I’m signed up, is it impossible to cancel my service?

You have no commitments with WilliamPaid. Use us once, multiple times, or cancel at any time. You can even just stop using our service altogether. We promise not to cry.

How long does it take to process my payment?

We have a 3 business day processing timeframe. Payments are not processed on weekends or holidays. We will deduct the funds from your bank account/credit card on the first processing day. Once we verify the funds, we send them to your Landlord on the 4th business day.

For example, you make your payment on Monday morning (counts as first business day because you scheduled it before the 3pm CST cut off; if you make it after 3pm CST, the first business day would be the following day). Mon – Wed counts as the three business days, and the payment will be sent to your Landlord on Thursday.

What happens if my payment is late?

If you're ever stuck with a late fee because of an error on our part, we guarantee to reimburse you up to $50. Details of how this works can be found in our terms of use here.


Credit Reporting

Why is rent now showing up on credit reports?

In June 2010, Experian acquired RentBureau's multifamily division. RentBureau is the largest and most widely used credit bureau for the multifamily industry. Experian RentBureau receives updated rental payment data every 24 hours from its national network of property management companies. On January 19, 2011, Experian announced it is now incorporating on-time rental data from its RentBureau division into the traditional credit file, opening a new avenue for underbanked consumers—which can include everyone from college students and recent graduates to immigrants—to build credit history with continuous on-time rental payments.

The inclusion of on-time rental payment history within Experian credit reports allows you to build credit history through timely rental payments.

What should I do if I find an error or encounter a problem with my credit report?

All disputes are processed by Experian's National Consumer Assistance Center. If you have a dispute or a concern, you can call Experian toll-free at 1 888 EXPERIAN (1 888 397 3742) or you can access a dispute form online at www.experian.com/disputes/main.html. Request a copy of your personal credit report directly from Experian and review it carefully. If you find an error, simply dispute the information immediately online or call or write to Experian following the instructions provided with your report. Upon receiving your dispute, Experian's National Consumer Assistance Center will investigate, either resolve or affirm the dispute, and send you the results of the investigation. This dispute process can take up to 30 days from the date the dispute is received.

Why do rental payments only show up on Experian credit reports?

Experian is the first and only major credit reporting agency to incorporate on-time rental payment data in consumer credit reports.

How will lenders use the rent information?

Lenders may use your rental obligation as one of the factors when determining your ability to pay any new debt. Because rental payment history is now part of the standard Experian credit report, it may also be incorporated into credit scores used by lenders to make credit-granting decisions. Each credit grantor decides what standards you must meet for it to grant you credit.

Will rent payments affect my credit score?

Your rental payment information will be included as part of your standard Experian credit report and may be incorporated into certain credit scores, such as VantageScore.

Can I self-report my rental payments?

No, you cannot report your own rental payment history to Experian RentBureau.
