A new year usually comes with a new set of resolutions and promises we make to ourselves. Perhaps 2013 will be the year you lose weight, quit smoking, make more time for your family, or land your dream job. But maybe this year your new year’s resolution should hit a little closer to home…or rather, your apartment.

Here are some New Year’s resolutions to make for your apartment to usher in 2013 on the right note!

De-Clutter/ Stay Organized

One of the best ways to feel better about your apartment is to clear it of clutter. Each year we acquire more and more stuff. Make this the year that you get rid of unnecessary disorder in your apartment. Start by cleaning out your closet and donate the clothes you don’t wear to charity. Clean out your drawers and cabinets and develop an organization system to make sure everything stays in its place this year.

 Start (and finish!) a Project

Communicate better with your roommates

A lot of New Year’s resolutions concern relationships. How about starting the New Year off right by resolving to better the relationship you have with the person (or people) you live with.  Whether it’s a close friend or significant other, your roommate relationship can always use some maintenance.  Decide to communicate better with your roommates. Be honest and tell them when they need to pick up after themselves or pitch in more with housework. Honesty and better communication with your roommates could be just what you need to make your apartment a better place to live in 2013.

Pay Your Bills On Time

Who doesn’t want to start the New Year by saving money? One of the first steps you can take to saving money this year is paying your bills on time. If you take the time to organize your payments, you won’t need to pay those pesky late fees that can add up. Develop a system to get your bills paid on time this year. Set aside time every month and develop an organization system to keep track of all your bills so that one doesn’t get lost in the shuffle. Another great New Years resolution? Pay your rent online. Not only does paying rent online make sure your rent payments are on time every month but it also goes towards your credit. New Year, better credit score!

Here’s to a Happy New Year in your apartment!

Wonderful resolutions for the year! I suggest renters make it a point to do general cleaning at their apartment homes at least once a month to clean it out real good. I do this at my main street lofts and I couldn’t be happier!
